Details: JOB PURPOSE AND REPORTING STRUCTURE: Under the direction of the Group Leader, Product Engineering, the Product Engineer performs the necessary support functions required to keep one or more product lines manufacturable and documented to meet customer expectations and company goals in terms of quality, cost and delivery schedules, in accordance with company policies and procedures. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Assume design-engineering responsibility for a product line at the end of the product development cycle. Interface with sales and marketing personnel to understand customer requirements and needs as they pertain to the assigned product line. Interface with manufacturing engineering and assembly line to stay informed of assembly effectiveness and potential problems. Assist in supplier selection, inventory analysis and disposition of rejected materials. Proactively monitor product quality and first pass yield of assigned product line(s). Collect data and perform necessary root cause analysis to develop corrective and preventive action to problems that may be detected. Monitor field quality and interpret results of root cause analysis of returned products as necessary to determine suitable corrective action. Manage design improvements of locally designed product lines as required based on quality data and/or inputs from marketing, manufacturing and materials Communication of design changes to manufacturing facilities, Technical Support areas and Service organization. Maintain customer documentation and automation databases for products, ensuring the completion and maintenance of all required documentation, paperwork, records, etc. Create and maintain procedures for testing products, components, parts, etc. Arrange for special testing as needed and interpret results. Interface with agencies like UL, CSA, etc. to maintain and expand third party approvals as necessary; participate in approval agency inspections and resolve variances and implement corrective action as required to maintain applicable approvals. Participate on cross-functional teams to ensure the continuous, on-going improvement of methods, processes, productivity and quality, while reducing costs. Suggest ideas for new products. Stay current in new developments in the industry. Keep informed of new parts or methods to improve products or product designs. Follow and comply with all safety and work rules and regulations. Maintain departmental housekeeping standards
