As a result, we are on the hunt for designers and design leaders who have a passion for Starbucks and talent for great design to join our regional design studios around the globe.Starbucks is currently looking for a successful, experienced and effective studio leader for the Fountain Valley, CA studio. The senior design manager is responsible for managing a 6-10 person studio to create, develop and execute outstanding, locally relevant store environments that align with Starbucks global design strategy. The senior design manager, as the lead manager in the studio, will play a lead role in the ongoing development of the studio into an award winning, high performance design team.Summary of Key ResponsibilitiesResponsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:Leadership - Setting goals for the work group, developing organizational capability, and modeling how we work together:Communicates Design strategy and direction and ensures understanding of strategy, priorities and impact to the team. Provides clear, effective and timely communication of design direction and changes. Effectively addresses exceptions and troubleshoots where needed.Identifies and communicates key responsibilities and practices to ensure the immediate team of direct reports promotes a successful attitude, confidence in leadership, and teamwork to achieve business results.Supports the implementation of company programs to ensure the success of the Company.Planning and Execution - Developing strategic and operational plans for the work group, managing execution, and measuring results:Communicates Store Development Business goals and ensures successful execution with regional and market teams. Provide direction on translation of Design Strategy in response to market business drivers. Leads communications on best practices across the business unit.Plans and manages business unit/department processes and practices to ensure that programs are aligned with company business goals and objectives.Prepares, communicates and educates client groups and team on changes in policies and practices within the organization.Provides clear direction on target deliverables on number of stores quarterly and updates as necessary. Provides annual store budget and target schedule goals. Coach teams on expectations and monitor progress.Sets and maintains the professional standards required to meet business unit/department and company objectives.Business Requirements - Providing functional expertise and executing functional responsibilities:Manages relationships with consultants to ensure compliance of service standards.Provides resources needed for Design Teams to meet schedules. Reviews schedules and work flow to anticipate needs. Prioritizes work effectively and gains alignment with Construction and Real Estate as needed to support Design Teams. Communicates resource shortfalls to Director of Design in a timely manner.Reviews team schematic designs and provides feedback. Provides direction for design issues or resolves directly with cross functional teams as needed.Partner Development & Team Building - Providing partners with coaching, feedback, and developmental opportunities and building effective teams:Challenges and inspires partners to achieve business results.Conducts and ensures the completion of performance reviews.Ensures continued partner development and development of direct reports. Coaches design managers in effectively creating development plans. Ensures execution of development plan. Identify necessary tools and training for teams.Ensures partners adhere to legal and operational compliance requirements.Oversees training and development of partners directly and indirectly managed and makes effective staffing decisions.Provides coaching, direction and leadership support to team members in order to achieve partner, business and customer results.
